Yvonne and Erik | engagement session, wedding invite

10 Aug 2011

Terschelling is a beautiful little island. It becomes even more special if you’ve been visiting the island since you were a little kid and your boyfriend proposes to you at that same island! And that’s exactly why Terschelling was the perfect place for Yvonne and Erik’s engagement session. On a chilly Saturday morning we took the ferry from Harlingen, to arrive at Terschelling an hour later. We were in a holiday mood as soon as we arrived. The beach, a bit of sunshine, lots of tourists out on the terraces. And us, with our camera’s ready to go. We had a lot of fun capturing Yvonne and Erik at their engagement session – resulting in a beautiful and very personal wedding invitation. I’ll soon post more photos of Yvonne and Erik, their wedding day was a few weeks ago and we got some really cool photos to share from their wedding as well.

The front of the wedding invitation:

Another engagement session, one that we shot at Schiermonnikoog last year. We had a very nice day at the island and we took photos at lots of different locations on the island. We designed awesome wedding announcements for Erica and Bas, using these images – the above photo was the front of their wedding card. Bas really liked this little ‘clown-house’, so we just had to take a few photos there – and he was right about that!

Of course we had to walk up to the lighthouse for some images.

Erica an Bas took balloons with them in their wedding day’s theme colors. Cute!

We were very lucky to have the great weather that we did, it was very sunny with a beautiful blue sky. Nice!

We also used these images to design and create a reception album for Erica and Bas – a very cool alternative for the usual boring reception albums, with personal photos combined with space for their guests to write down their well wishes for the couple. These images are a few example-pages from the reception album (what you see is the lefthand side and the righthand side together, so there’s an almost invisible fold in the middle):

The reception album was obviously made to match the wedding album – in the wedding day’s theme colors!

This past weekend we shot a great engagement session at Terschelling island. And that’s all I can tell you about that, as the photos are for the couple’s wedding invites and all the details are top secret of course. But it did make me realise that I haven’t yet posted any photos of Saskia and Remco’s engagement session last winter. They got married in March, so it’s safe to assume the wedding invite is no longer a surprise for their friend and family. Saskia and Remco own Winner Yachts, a shipyard in Enkhuizen, and that’s where we went for their engagement shoot. They really wanted the IJsselmeer to be part of their shoot, but they didn’t want the photos to only show boats. It had to be mainly about them and their adorable daughters. It was nice and sunny that winter day, but terribly cold. I can hardly imagine now that Spring has been feeling like Summer these days!

A photo session for an extra personal wedding invite is a great idea. And another upside: you get used to our cameras. And us…

Later this week, Madeleine and Ton will tie the knot and we are already looking forward to their wedding day! A while ago they came into our studio for their pre-wedding photoshoot or engagement session. The photo’s from this pre-wedding photoshoot were used for their wedding-card-that-wasn’t-a-card and will be appearing throughout the wedding.

When we do an engagement session for the wedding announcement, we usually do the design for the cards, but in this case the bride and groom designed their cards themselves. Ton is a photographer as well and he had a pretty set idea of what he wanted for their wedding invitation: a large print in A3-size in the style of a film poster, with the outlines of a silhouette image “filled” with other images of the two of them. The result is amazing. I should really ask Ton to share the design with our blog readers, but I don’t want to add anything to his ‘to do list’ this close to his wedding day! But believe you me: the invitation is awesome! These are a few images used in their card. The first photo is used as their silhouette image that is ‘filled’ with lots of other images. Wicked
