Pisa is a community centre for people with cancer, and their loved ones. It is a welcoming home in the city of Hoorn and it is a very important place. It supports people with cancer and organizes many different activities. Partners and family members are welcome in the centre as well. And last week on Thursday, Pisa organised a special day to pamper its visitors. There were masseuses, and a hairdresser. Mindfulness traning and a zumba-workout. Great snacks and drinks by the Hoorn Bagels&Beans team. And the possibility to have a professional portrait done. Me, my lights and my camera were at the Pisa ‘pamper day’ last year and I couldn’t wait to join the team again this year.

I photographed strong, beautiful, vulnerable women. And a few men. But I didn’t just take photos last Thursday, I mainly listened. All these people have their own unique story. I can only hope these images do them and their stories justice.

The Pisa centre is going through some rough times due to the economic recession and cost cutting, but last Thursday made very clear why centres like this are so important. Grandpa and grandma recently celebrated their 40th anniversary – and what better gift than a beautiful photo of the grandkids! These grandparents received a gift certificate for a photosession in our studio ánd a nice enlargement for their wall. And since Iris and Pieter’s ‘other’ grandma and grandpa would also celebrate their anniversary, the ‘other’ grandkids came along as well. And that’s how our studio turned into a bit of a playground on a nice Sunday morning a few weeks ago. Kids, parents, grandparents, everyone participated in the shoot and got to be photographed. And even though the first photo on top of this post is mostly very funny, the next two photos were selected as gorgeous enlargements for the respective grandfathers and grandmothers. Framed in beautiful silver frames – a perfect gift!

A few years ago, we photographed Sara and Ben’s wedding day. And this year they came back to the studio for a nice portrait of their cute little son Noah. It was great to see Sara and Ben again and to meet little Noah. What an awesome little kid!
