Hiding from the rain. That’s how it all started. They had known each other for a while – from a distance, at first and a bit better when they were both on a board of directors. And then, one day, they were walking someplace together when it suddenly started to rain cats and dogs. So they ran for cover – what else to do? And they know have their own great hiding place – a beautiful appartment in the centre of Rotterdam. And when Jan Albert proposed to his bride on one of their far away vacation, she smiled radiantly and agreed. And she was radiant all day on her wedding day as well – a gorgeous, radiant winter bride. With a fur shawl and gloves and a very, very pretty dress. And the groom was looking quite handsome himself.
Petra and Jan Albert’s wedding day had a bit of a ‘different’ schedule from a traditional wedding day – in the morning, Jan Albert didn’t go to his bride, but Petra went to pick up her groom instead. The bride was at her own home in the morning, where her mother helped her get ready. Shaky hands and a lot of tiny little buttons don’t go too well together, but she managed in the end and all was well.
Jan Albert was at his parents’ place in Nieuwerkerk aan de IJssel, where Marco joined him.
The bride’s family awaited her arrival downstairs in the hallway, while the groom and his relatives waited for her on top of the stairs..
The bride arrives.
The ‘first look’ – the moment when bride and groom first see each other in their wedding attire.
The gardens still had quite a bit of snow. The bride and groom walked the white runner to the teahouse for lunch, their guests following them. The burning candles and the heart-shaped umbrella’s made it picture-perfect!
Grandfather didn’t want to miss one word of his grandson’s speech.
Petra’s bridal bouquet in it’s designated vase, and the amazing wedding cake next to it. The wedding cake was cut right after lunch.
After lunch, all the day guests went on to Rotterdam, while we stayed behind to take some nice photos in the gardens. What a totally nice, gorgeous and in love couple this is!
We then had a few minutes (literally) to take some photos at the Rotterdam riverside, before we headed to the Schielandshuis for the wedding ceremony.
The wedding hall was a bit small for the huge number of people present – people in the back had to stand, but I don’t think they minded at all. Petra was walked down the aisle by her mother. And the guy on the right, with the camera – that’s Sket from One Life Film. If you’re looking for a camera man to shoot a wedding day videoclip, be sure to check him out!
The kiss – a special moment. Jan Albert dipped his bride for a big kiss, and I happened to be at just the right place!
Several good friends of the bride and groom speeched during the wedding ceremony. It made for a very touching and personal ceremony.
Both the wedding dinner as the wedding party was held in the Inntel Rotterdam, a hip hotel at a unique location: right at the Erasmusbridge. It’s obviously an amazing wedding venue at any time, but it was especially great on New Year’s Eve. The wedding hall is located on the 17th floor, with glass walls all around – there isn’t a better view of Rotterdam and the Erasmusbridge fireworks! The guests stood on the stairs to welcome the bride and groom onto the 17th floor. They entered the beautifully lit and styled dinner hall, which was later turned into the party hall in no time.
The first dance – which was untraditional as well! The wedding party was kicked off by the bride and groom with a great choreography – and as it wasn’t traditional, I’m posting an ‘untraditional’ photo as well.
A couple nice images of Petra’s engagement ring and the couple’s wedding rings. And I just have to repost this ‘once in a lifetime’ photo of the bride and groom at the Inntel balcony, with the New Year’s Eve fireworks and the Erasmusbridge in the background.
