Erica and Bas | Posthoornkerk wedding, De Kas reception

30 Jul 2010

Bas’ sister has a good friend, who, coincidentally, is also a good friend of Erica’s. Bas’ sister and her friend decided it would be a great idea to introduce Bas to Erica. And we can all guess how that ended! They met and right away they were smitten. Cloud nine, and that didn’t changed after the first crazy exciting butterflies. They both knew they had found Mr. and Ms. Right. And when you know, and there’s no doubt in your mind, why not get married? Bas proposed on the beautiful island of Schiermonnikoog. All Erica could do was say ‘YES’. And exactly one year after their first date, they said ‘I DO’. This is their day through our lenses.

Bas got ready at his uncle and aunt’s home, while Erica was at home.

After Bas had picked up his bride from home, we went to the Brouwersgracht for the photoshoot.

Erica’s Prince Charming at designer Tycho Boeker’s place.

Amsterdam is so pretty!

On the Melkmeisjes-bridge. The sun, the veil, a bride with so much grace – breathtaking!

Oh-la-la! Look at him looking at his bride! Oh, and check out the brides high heels!

Happy Endings! But this wedding really is a Happy Beginning!

Formal portrait of the bride and groom. With a twist, of course.

Beautiful bride, beautiful look in her eyes! I’m very curious what Bas was whispering in her ear here…

While we were shooting photos of the bride and groom, the dayguests stepped on board the Multatuli, a nice salonboat. We got in a bit later for a tour of the Amsterdam canals.

When you are sailing underneith the Magere Brug (Meager Bridge), you are supposed to kiss. For love and goodluck. The skipper took his time to pass the bridge, so Erica and Bas’ love and goodluck is totally taken care of!

At a certain moment, the Notendop came alongside. Reinier Sijpkens’ super fun music boat. He accompanied us in his very unique way all the way to the boat landing. Very cool!

The Multatuli landed close to the West-Indisch Huis. And while everyone got off the boat, the Notendop kept playing music for the bride and groom. The guests stood on the landing and enjoyed the music, the bride and groom waltzed. The many tourists around loved it.

The bride and groom got married in the amazing Posthoorn Church on the Haarlemmerstraat. A good friend of the couple was their officiant, family members speeched, the kids in Erica’s class sang a song, Erica and Bas cited their own vows. All in all, it was a beautiful and very personal wedding ceremony in a great venue!

With the bride and groom leading the way, we walked to the West-Indisch Huis closeby. That’s where they held their reception. Without a wedding cake, as the bride and groom chose to have lots and lots of delicious, colorful cupcakes instead. Made by Marte, a good friend of the bride and familiar with all things wedding: she writes the fun FromFraai wedding blog.

The wedding day’s theme colors were red, orange and yellow. They had brilliant balloons. Right here they are tied to the sculpture at the West-Indisch Huis courtyard. The couple even brought bright orange and red umbrella’s for all their guests, in case it was going to rain. Fortunately, we had blue skies and sunshine all day, so we didn’t need the umbrella’s!

It was very, very warm in the courtyard. Some people even took off their shoes to paddle in the fountain.

Sweet moment between the groom and his friend who performed their wedding.

When Erica threw her wedding bouquet, her unmarried friends were ready to catch it!

After the reception, the bride and groom and their guests went to Restaurant De Kas (the Greenhouse) for dinner.

The champagne was served with freshly picked flowers in the glasses. Fancy!

The nice interior.

Drinks outside, before dinner.

The groom and his friends. I have no clue what they’re doing here, but they seem to be having fun!

The wedding rings. Erica and Bas ordered custommade candy from Papabubble: with their names, a little heart in the middle and in their theme colors! It made a great accessory for the wedding rings!

And that’s how a long, hot, beautiful wedding day came to an end. It was one of those days where Marco and I drive back home from the wedding, exhausted, and we look at each other and say: Yep, this is why we do what we do!

Some days...

28 Jul 2010

Some days are Not Much Fun. Like when you have a load of software problems and everything keeps freezing up on you. Yes, even your Mac. Especially your Mac. Or when you’re out of cheese while you really, really wanted to make a hot ham&cheese sandwhich. Or when it starts to rain ridicuously hard just when you are outside. That’s stupid.

Today started out as One of Those Days. But an amazingly awesome boudoirshoot this afternoon made up for a lot of what happened earlier today. I can’t share any photos from the shoot, unfortunately, because our sweet boudoir client will be surprising her husband-to-be with some hot images. On his wedding day. Woohoo! And tonight we forgot all of today’s drama when Saskia and Michel came along to pick up their wedding images. We had a great time talking about their wedding day and their honeymoon to Bali. And we watched part of their wedding video. In which Marco laid in the sand and I happily skipped around. We showed the brand new husband and wife a nice slideshow of their wedding images. And that made all of today allright again.

And to make this day even more fun, I’m sharing a few images of our doggies at the beach, last weekend. Aren’t they lovely!

In the back of our yard, there’s a cute little shed. And when you look a little better, you’ll notice that it’s a different construction where the roof can actually be pushed away from the shed. Well, it isn’t a regular shed at all. It’s Marco’s observatory, dressed up as a shed. And when the skies are clear and the nights are dark, Marco can be found in his observatory. Or in the studio – because with modern technology he can actually operate his telescope and his mount from his computer in our studio. How it works? I have no clue. Astrophotography is rocket science, or close to it, and very technical and it’s best if I don’t get involved. And besided, I enjoy a good night’s sleep way to much to sit outside and gaze at stars. But when he shows images like this one of the Veil Nebula in the morning, I’m mighty proud of him.

At Marco’s astrophotography-website you’ll find many more great images and information about his telescope, mount and camera.

Petra really wanted some nice, unique images of her beautiful pregnant belly and she didn’t mind crossing the country to get what she wanted. And that’s how she came to our studio one day.

We shot Petra’s maternity photos in different settings and with different accessoiries. These are some images of Petra in her cute little black dress.

If you would like to have some awesome maternity portraits of yourself, let us know! We advise you to get your maternity photos done between weeks 32 and 36, as most girls have a nice, round belly by that time and a photoshoot may be too taxing later on in your pregnancy. And besides, if you come in around week 32-36, we can have your enlargements and photoalbum ready for you before your due date!
