Raymond folded one thousand cranes before he proposed to Ancilla. One thousand times almost 30 folds in pieces of colored paper. One thousand times happiness and health. In the Japanese tradition, the crane symbolizes happiness and health, and he who folds a thousand cranes shall know happiness and health for ever. And that was certainly true for this bride and groom on their wedding day!
The cranes made appearances all throughout the day. The couple’s home was decorated with them.
In the morning, Marco went to the groom while I photographed the bride getting ready.
The flowers on the car:
When there’s time to photograph the bride’s shoes, I always like to shoot them somewhere special. This is on the bride and groom’s fun wineholder.
The ‘finishing touches’ for the bride’s hairdo.
Raymond arrives in their nice wedding car. They bought the heartshaped umbrella for their wedding day.
The house’s hallway is pretty dark and a bit small, while the living room and garden are spacious and light, so Ancilla decided to have a change from the traditional ‘bride-walks-down-the-stairs-while-groom-waits-downstairs’ scene. Raymond stood in the garden, with his back towards the living room, with the wedding guests outside. Ancilla walked towards her groom through the living room. That was great, as the wedding guests could see the bride before the groom could see her… you could almost feel his tension!
We went to The Hague for the photoshoot with the bride and groom for beautiful portraits of the two of them in several different spots.
The wedding ceremony took place in Hofwijck Castle in Voorburg, a beautiful old little castle built in the seventeenth century by Constantijn Huygens.
The wedding officiant had Raymond fold a crane during the ceremony. Raymond obviously had no problem with that!
Ancilla and her best friend and witness had a little chat during the signing of the marriage certificate.
After the wedding ceremony, we had a bit of time for photo’s on the Hofwijck Castle stairs. And even though it didn’t rain, the couple wanted a few shots with their nice heartshaped umbrella.
The day continued with a nice boatride from Voorburg to The Hague.
Serenade on the boat.
A delicious dinner was served at Restaurant M in The Hague.
And in between canape’s and dinner we took some more images with friends and family. I love this photo of the bride and her girls!
Meanwhile, Marco photographed the great wedding rings, made by jeweler Mark Bos who designs the most amazing jewels.
After dinner a classic French city bus took us to country estate Te Werve in Rijswijk, where the evening guests awaited the bride and groom.
And the first dance, beautifully lit by the DJ’s lights!
